Veettilekkulla Kathukal

Veettilekkulla Kathukal offers a deep look at the unseen side of Sylvia Plath, American writer whose best-known poems are noted for their personal imagery and intense focus. It is an attempt to probe the troubled mind of the celebrated writer. From college years to her death in February 1963, Sylvia Plath wrote 696 letters to her family. A selection of these letters were collected together by her mother Aurelia Schobber Plath who added her own commentary to produce the volume, Letters Home. Veettilekkulla Kathukal is based on this book and some of her biographies.

Modern Classics

The book titled Sahasrabdathinte cinemakal, was released by film critic C.S Venkiteswaran at the Open Forum held as part of the 10th International Film Festival of Kerala held from 9 to 16th December 2005. Critic I Shanmughadas received the copy. Dr V.C Haris, moderater at the function introduced the book. Published by Frame Film Society Tirur, the book is an attempt to popularise contemporary world cinema among the film literate audience in Kerala. The book features frame by frame study of three modern classics- Run Lola Run,Gloomy Sunday and Good Bye Lenin. These films were screened at various editions of International Film festivals held in Kerala. I just want to give the filmbuffs a better appreciation for these widely acclaimed films. The book seeks to provide insights into even a minor scene or specific line of dialogue that can be vitally important to the dynamic of the film. The film lovers might have missed the minor details and subtle use of thematic symbols during the screening at the film festival. (I used to watch at least four films a day during the festival.) If you watch these films again after reading this book, you may find tremendous new meanings that are at best translated into images. Both aspiring screenwriters and beginners may find many helpful tips in this book.

A Book on Suicide

The book titled Athmahatya Jeevitham Kondu Murivettavante Vakku was released on 26th July 2004 by noted writer and critic Prof M.N Vijayan at a function held at Mahakavi G Auditorium in Ernakulam. Veteran journalist K.M Roy presided over the function. Kavitha Balakrishnan, painter and critic introduced the book. Poets Viji Thampi and Prabha Verma delivered felicitation speeches. I welcomed the gathering and my co-author M A Shanavas proposed the vote of thanks. One of the reasons we wrote the book was to bring before the eyes of Keralites the fact that creative people are more vulnerable to depression and suicide. Looked at from the international perspective, suicide rates in Kerala are higher than in many other parts of the world. Being a state in distress, Kerala is struggling with the ethical questions surrounding the subject. The book is an attempt to bring together life sketches of noted literary figures, painters and artistes who took their lives. Virginia Woolf, Sylvia Plath, Vincent Vangogh, Hemingway, Mishima, Kawabata, Mayakovsky, Hitler, Edappally Raghavan Pillai, T Guhan, Rajalakshmi, Nandanar, Krishnakumar, Shelvy, Nandita, SubrahmanyaDas, Sanildas, T P Kishor, Silk Smitha ...etc.It also provides a background survey of literary, philosophical, psychological, and sociological responses to suicide as a phenomenon. Here you can read the translated and abridged version of the article The Myth of Sysiphus by Albert Camus.More research is needed to examine the link between creativity and suicide. I think this book will be helpful for further research in this field.
