Modern Classics

The book titled Sahasrabdathinte cinemakal, was released by film critic C.S Venkiteswaran at the Open Forum held as part of the 10th International Film Festival of Kerala held from 9 to 16th December 2005. Critic I Shanmughadas received the copy. Dr V.C Haris, moderater at the function introduced the book. Published by Frame Film Society Tirur, the book is an attempt to popularise contemporary world cinema among the film literate audience in Kerala. The book features frame by frame study of three modern classics- Run Lola Run,Gloomy Sunday and Good Bye Lenin. These films were screened at various editions of International Film festivals held in Kerala. I just want to give the filmbuffs a better appreciation for these widely acclaimed films. The book seeks to provide insights into even a minor scene or specific line of dialogue that can be vitally important to the dynamic of the film. The film lovers might have missed the minor details and subtle use of thematic symbols during the screening at the film festival. (I used to watch at least four films a day during the festival.) If you watch these films again after reading this book, you may find tremendous new meanings that are at best translated into images. Both aspiring screenwriters and beginners may find many helpful tips in this book.
